New Lens | 85mm 1.8

By September 27, 2012 personal

I’m happy to say that the last few weeks have been very busy for my business. I had an amazing opportunity to tag along to a wedding with another local photographer (more on that soon), I had a wonderful time with Lauren and Blake at their session and I photographed a lovely family in Memorial Park (keep an eye out for the pictures next week!). With all this activity, I decided it was time to invest in another lens.

I read through a lot of gear posts from some of my favorite photographer friends – yes, even the ones who shoot Nikon! I also went to Twitter to crowdsource some opinions on what I should get next. After a bit of thinking and debating, I finally settled on the Canon 85mm 1.8 since it’s a great focal length for portraits and that’s mainly what I shoot.

I rush ordered it so that I would have it in time for my family session last weekend (thanks Amazon Prime!) and I can easily say that I loved this lens from the very first picture. As much as I love my 50mm 1.8, the 85mm definitely brings something special to portraits. After one session, I’m already not sure how I lived without this lens.

Here’s a picture I took of Jezabelle in our backyard as I was testing out my new 85mm. Cutest dog ever? Yeah, I think so.
